Alpine Plants Festival

Alpine Plants are small, hardy heroes that can make a big impression in any garden, whether you’re designing a drought-tolerant garden, crafting eye-catching displays, or making the most of your outdoor space.

At Otter Garden Centres, we’re thrilled to launch our Alpine Plants Festival, continuing our exciting 2026 series of plant festivals.

This special event celebrates the charm, resilience, and remarkable versatility of alpine plants. Originating from mountainous regions and other harsh, rugged landscapes, these hardy species have evolved to thrive in extreme climates. Their ability to withstand cold, wind, poor soils, and drier conditions makes them a valuable addition to our gardens as our climate continues to change.

At the heart of the festival are our Otter Grown Plants—locally cultivated with care and a commitment to sustainability.

These plants are not only stunning but also perfectly suited to thrive in our local climate, making them a must-have for your garden this season.

Small Flowers, impactful colour

Compact, hardy plants with vibrant blooms and distinctive foliage.

Rockery favourites that also shine in containers, gravel gardens and borders.

Small but adaptable, making them a great choice for smaller outdoor spaces.

A feast for Pollinators

Alpines are a great addition to wildlife friendly gardens thanks to their attractive, vibrant blooms.

Varieties with larger flowers can provide important nectar during crucial times of the year.

Happy Plants, Happy Gardens

Plant in a sunny location, with free-draining soil.

While relatively drought-tolerant, alpines will benefit from watering in dry weather.

Apply a mulch of suitable grit or gravel to protect foliage from moisture.

Pairing Perfectly

Combine several alpine varieties for a striking blend of colour, form and texture.

Choose varieties that flower at different times of the year to create impressive displays of flowers and foliage.

Locally grown with care!

Our Otter Grown Plants are cultivated locally using sustainable methods.

Hardy and vibrant, they thrive in our local climate.
