August

Chrysanthemums

These time-honoured favourites make popular additions to the garden in late summer and early autumn

Fondly known as ‘mums’, they provide an instant boost of colour as early bedding dies back. They’re long lasting, too, and will continue flowering into November.

Chrysanthemums are available in a wide choice of colours, from summer reds and creams to autumnal yellows and gold, deep burgundies to soft pastel lilac. Mix and match for impact or choose your own favourite colour combinations.

They also come in different shapes such as pompon, single and semi-double, anemone and spider. Choose from compact varieties of 15cm to taller varieties that can reach a metre in height.

Mums love full sun and well drained soil. With the current dry weather, you may prefer to plant in pots to ensure they thrive.

Always a welcome addition to any garden, our Plant of the Month for August is the wonderful, versatile mum!
