Worried that your Christmas lights use too much electricity? Don’t switch off just yet!

What would Christmas be without Christmas lights?

They really add to the festive atmosphere and can be used in multiple ways, on the Christmas tree, in windows, wrapped around garlands and bannisters, strung from bookcases or round doorways.

We all have our preferences, from soft, warm white lights to multi-coloured twinkling displays. It’s down to personal taste.

However, as we are becoming increasingly conscious about how much energy we use, we thought it would be good to share this helpful information received from our Christmas lighting suppliers, Premier and Kaemingk.

Did you know…

LED Christmas lights are 5 to 10 times more economical than traditional Christmas light bulbs

This is because LED lighting uses less power so is more energy efficiency. In addition, LED has a longer lifespan – and the bulbs are unbreakable.

You can decide when and for how long your Christmas lights are on

All Lumineo Christmas lights come with a timer which is easy to set. This means that you can control when the lights come on and when they go off.

So no more forgetting to turn them off at night, they simply will go off automatically. This practical function really does help to prevent energy wastage.

The cost of lighting a Christmas isn’t as much as you think!

The approximate cost of lighting up your tree for 30 days at around 8 hours a day will be around the same as one cycle of your washing machine or watching television for 8 hours.

If you don’t use your main house lights when your Christmas tree lights are on, you may even save a little energy too!

Key points

  • LED lighting is more energy efficient than incandescent lights
  • Using a timer allows you to control the amount of time your lights are on
  • Turn your main house lights off to get the best atmosphere and use even less energy

Not just for Christmas…

While some people keep their lights to use at Christmas, many of us leave a few strings up or inside glass jars to give a pretty light effect to the room all year round.

Now you can enjoy them all the more knowing that their energy usage is minimal.
