Camellia Claire Hannah added to National Trail at Mount Edgcumbe

MD Jacqui Taylor made the news recently when she visited Mount Edgcumbe in Cremyll, Torpoint.

Jacqui, accompanied by her niece, Lara White, took some beautiful examples of our exclusive Claire Hannah camellia to be added to Mount Edgcumbe’s National Camellia Trail.

Claire Hannah was first created back in 1996. It’s a pretty semi-double camellia which is a cross of two varieties, St. Ewe and Blood of China. The camellia has been very popular with customers over the years and features in many South West gardens – but this is the first time it’s been in the news!

When Jacqui took the plants, she met with Mount Edgcumbe Garden and Camellia Curator Lee Stenning and a crew from the BBC who came along to film the occasion for a Spotlight news broadcast. Jacqui told reporter Johnny Rutherford that Otter was absolutely thrilled that Claire Hannah was now part of the collection and available for everybody to see.

The National Camillia Trail collection was started in 1976 with a gift of 70 camellias from the International Camellia Society. There are over 1000 camellias in the collection and now is a great time to visit. Depending on the variety and seasonal conditions, many camellias tend to be in full flower in the early Spring months, and Jaqui reported seeing a stunning show of beautiful blooms. Perfect for a day out over the Easter break.

If you do visit, see if you can spot Claire Hannah!
