Our Ottery St Mary yard team had a lovely surprise last week after a customer enquired about the price of a mini dovecote.

The team went to check which one the enquiry referred to, and as they approached they heard some little cheeping sounds. Could it be….? It was! A pair of birds had spotted the empty home and decided it would be a great place to build a nest and bring up their family.

We very carefully took a photo without disturbing the cheeping brood – and then we had to let the customer know that the dovecote was no longer available.

The price has been removed and the yard team will keep an eye on the young family until they are fully fledged and have left their nest.

This isn’t the first time we’ve discovered birds nesting on site. They often find interesting places to set up home, such as great tits who grew up in the growing nursery’s radio speaker in Ottery, robins in the aquatics department at Plymouth, and a wren’s nest in a hanging basket!
