Santa’s Grotto Update

We have received lots of enquiries asking if our Santa’s Grotto will be open this year. We know that many parents and children have been hoping that Santa would return to Otter again after we had to cancel last year’s Grotto due to the pandemic.

It’s with great sadness that we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the Grotto for the second year in a row.

We hoped we would be in a different situation but uncertainty over Covid rates over the winter presents a huge challenge to us. Yet again we have had to consider how we can hold the Grotto and keep everyone safe and Covid free – all the families, children, our team members, elves and of course Santa himself.

Regular visitors know how much our Grotto is designed around family groups mingling together, singing and dancing as well as getting close to Santa himself. We do not want to put any families at risk and safety continues to be our main priority.

We are so sorry to disappoint the children, but we know as parents you will still fill the festive season with plenty of magical experiences. And nothing will prevent Santa from delivering presents to children around the world on Christmas Eve!

This is a huge decision for us to take as the Grotto has always been an integral part of the Christmas season at our Ottery St Mary garden centre and has become a tradition for so many families.

We do look forward to welcoming you back to Santa’s Grotto, which we hope will take place again next year in 2022.

In the meantime, our Christmas displays at all our garden centres will be as beautiful as ever and these will be ready to enjoy from the beginning of October half-term, with late night opening on Wednesdays.

Thank you so much for your patience.
