Update on Santa’s Magical Kingdom Grotto at Otter
Santa has been in regular contact with us here at Otter over the past few months for discussions about whether he could safely visit his Magical Kingdom grotto this year. We have left it as long as we could to make a final decision, in the hope that we would be able to bring you good news.
Regrettably, Santa has now confirmed that due to the Covid-19 pandemic he will not be able to visit Otter, so we have to announce that the Magical Kingdom grotto at Otter Garden Centre in Ottery St Mary and Lymington will not take place in 2020.
Santa is very sad, as are we all. But safety is the most important thing – Santa needs to remain healthy so he can still fly around the world on Christmas Eve to deliver presents to all the children whilst they sleep.
This difficult decision has been taken with a heavy heart, and we want to say a sincere sorry to all the families and especially the children who were looking forward to this festive event. We know how disappointed you will be.
We have spent a great deal of time reviewing all the government guidelines and working out if we could offer an alternative, socially distanced event. However, with the recent increase in the rates of the virus, our layout and available space, we feel that we could not keep Santa, visiting families and our elves safe whilst still providing the wonderful experience that everyone expects.
We will miss seeing you all at Otter this Christmas and so will Santa. He has asked us to send a special message to all the children who normally come to see him:
“Keep an eye on the sky on Christmas Eve – you may spot me and my magical sleigh drawn by Rudolph and his reindeer team as we deliver presents to children around the world. Please remember to leave out some cookies for me, and some reindeer food for my reindeer team!”
If you do see Santa, give him a big wave!
From everyone at Otter, please stay safe and stay well, and we hope to see you all at the Magical Kingdom next year.
