In the early hours of Friday September 3, everyone at Otter will be sending positive thoughts to team member Hannah Taunton, who is competing in the T20 1500m event at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Hannah flew out a few weeks ago to get acclimatized to the conditions in Japan and has now moved into the Olympic village.
Last year, she set the women’s T20 5000 metres world record at the British Athletics Championships in Manchester, and recently represented GB in Poland at the Para European Championships.
Manager of Otter’s Taunton branch, Rob Brooks said that all Hannah’s colleagues are very supportive of her. “We are so proud to have a Paralympian on our team. We wish Hannah the very best of luck.”
Hannah’s mum, Gill Taunton added; “As a family we are thrilled that Hannah has this amazing opportunity. She has trained very hard and is passionate about her running. She is an inspiration to many, especially those who have a disability.”
As Tokyo is eight hours ahead, the race will be taking place in the early hours of Friday morning at 2.26 a.m.
If you’re awake at that time, why not watch the event and cheer Hannah on. Good luck Hannah, from us all!
Following the latest government announcement of the new lockdown restrictions, garden centres along with supermarkets and certain other essential retailers can remain open. All Otter Garden Centres will be open during the lockdown, however, our coffee shops are now temporarily closed.
Our number one priority is the safety of our team members and our customers. So we are operating with strict Covid-19 safety measures which all customers are asked to respect. These measures include:
- Please shop alone where possible, we will allow a maximum of 2 persons shopping together
- Social distancing and the wearing of face coverings is mandatory
- Please pay using contactless payment where possible
- Sanitising stations are being provided for customer use
- Customer numbers are monitored. Should it be needed, a queuing system will be implemented
We are grateful that the benefits of gardening have been recognised by the government, especially for the physical and mental wellbeing it provides. We will be here to help you with your garden needs, from plants to give winter colour in your garden, spring flowering tulip bulbs to plant now, or bird food to help wildlife through the colder months.
Thank you to all our customers for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming you safely to our garden centres.
